Consignment Store Finds: 3/29

Once in a while I take a bag full of "stuff" to our local consignment store to see if I can earn a few dollars from our no-longer-being-used items.

I went earlier this week to take another bag of "stuff." I had no intention of shopping but the baby was magnetized by a toy she saw and in I went! I got all of this for a little over $3 with the store credit from my last batch of items that had sold recently!

Pictured below are:

1. Gymboree sweater hoodie, marked down to $7, like new. This will be packed away until winter.
2. Girls snowsuit, marked down to $3, like new. This will be packed away until winter.
3. Nike sandals, $4, like new.
4. Gap girls blouse, $2, like new.
5. Shopping cart / high chair cover, $4, like new. I'd seen these in the store but refused to pay $20 - $30 for one.
6. Bead toy, $6.50, like new.

The clothing items, sandals, and shopping cart cover went into the wash. I wiped the bead toy down with Clorox wipes and the baby has been playing with it since we brought it home.

Not too bad of a day!

Humane Society Fundraiser Update

Here's the loot we purchased for the Humane Society fundraiser. We deliver it on Thursday. We'll be back to report further and give thanks to the GENEROUS supporters!

Olay Quench Body Lotion: FREE After Rebate

I've participated in a few Olay rebate offers in the past and was pleasantly surprised to find their rebate checks came pretty promptly.

Here's another Olay FREE After Rebate offer I plan on doing:

Rebate offer valid through April 16, 2010.

Acme: 3/25

As if my freezer wasn't full enough... I did one more trip to Acme (it's only 4 minutes from the house) last week for their awesome Just Chill promo.

I got:

3 Edy's ice creams
7 Jose Ole Chimichangas

And paid....

DRUM ROLL.....

$1.29!

Yup, you read it right-- $1.29!

The Edy's were regularly priced at $6.29 each but were B1G2 FREE with in-ad coupon. I had a $2/2 Edy's manufacturer coupon from a home mailer. The Chimichangas were priced at 10/$10. I used my leftover $10 catalina from this transaction, and once again, earned another $10 Catalina!

Veteran couponers out there refer to this as "rolling Cats" or "rolling Catalinas." By rolling Cats you pay as little out of pocket as possible. :)

ACME: FREE Jose Ole Chimichangas!

Now through March 25th you can snag FREE Jose Ole Chimichangas at Acme! They are part of the Just Chill promotion where you earn $10 in Catalinas (two $5 Catalinas to be exact) for every 10 participating items you purchase. Both the steak & cheese and chicken & cheese varieties work for this deal (UPC #s 073202892513, 073202892537).

Here's what I did and how you can do it too:

Transaction #1:

(1) Shady Brook Farms Turkey Bratwurst, $4.39, $2 markdown Q
(2) Armour Lunchmakers, $1.67, $.50 markdown Q
(1) Stalk of Celery, $1
(2) 4.4 oz Blueberries, $1.99 each

Used- (2) $3.50 Catalinas from the other week
OOP- $2.21

Transaction #2:

(10) Jose Ole Chicken Chimichangas

Used: (2) $5 Catalinas from the other week
OOP- $0.00
Earned- $10 in Catalinas

(10) Jose Ole Chicken Chimichangas

(2) Nestle Drumsticks, $1.99, also part of Just Chill Catalina promo

Used: (2) $5 Catalinas from Transaction #3
OOP- $1.98

It may seem confusing and like a lot of work but it really wasn't difficult to tell the cashier that I had separate transactions. All I did was break them up on the belt w/ the plastic bars.

By doing 4 transactions this way, I spent the least amount out of pocket. I could have very well paid cash up front and still have $47 in Catalinas in my pocket but I'd rather have the cash. ;)

Quarter Auctions Coming Up!

I did really well with Wee-Cycle this weekend and have yet again decided to aid myself in being "swamped." Yup, I did it again! I think if I didn't take on all these commitments, I'd be bored???

Anyway, I've got 3 Quarter Auctions this week to prepare for. I have one Friday night, one Saturday night, and one Tuesday night (if you want directions and times, let me know!).

I'll be slow on the steals since I'll be preparing my goods for the Auctions. None the less, stay tuned, and I'll back with more money-saving deals!

GIVEAWAY: Yoplait Light - LAST CALL!

Just a quick post to let everyone know this is the "last call" for entering the MyBlogSpark & Yoplait Light GIVEAWAY! It closes tomorrow, 3/16 @ noon. Good luck!

Catching Up!

Schew! What a weekend!

Let me start by apologizing for my absence. Our Verizon internet service went out this weekend and didn't come back up until Sunday afternoon. It came back just about the time I was leaving for my 4-hour volunteer shift at Wee-Cycle.

I work my "real job" today so I haven't had a chance to close out the GIVEAWAY from Saturday or draw a winner. So.... I'm extending the GIVEAWAY until tomorrow, 3/16. Feel free to enter away as I'll be closing it tomorrow @ noon and drawing a winner's name shortly there after.

Back to Wee-Cycle. I must say that as a first time consignor, and second time buyer, I am really pleased with how it turned out!

I made a little over $200 by consigning "stuff" that we were no longer using and needed to get out of the house. Most of my consigned items were boys and girls clothes and shoes. I had some toys and baby items as well but not as many.

I made out on my purchases too! I bought several little girls 2-piece summer outfits that were all brand new with tags. The prices ranged from $2 to $5 per outfit. Not bad! I was also able to score a gently used double-stroller (retail $150) for $70!

The spring Wee-Cycle for Harford Co. Maryland is now over but there are more in other counties as well as upcoming fall events. Check it out here!

This scenario is GREAT! I did it once using the B1G1 and $1 coupons but also did a 2nd transaction using a $5 off any 3 from the January/February Weight Watchers magazine. Using the $5 off 3 coupon was a money maker so I grabbed a gallon of milk to absorb the overage!

All this for $28.61 and I got back $13.50 in Catalinas to spend on a future purchase!

There's still time for you to hit up these deals but hurry because tomorrow is the last day of the sale.

Here's what I did and how you can do it too!

Acme Catalina deals calculate on the shelf price and NOT the sale price (unless it's on Knock Down).

Pictured above are 3 Catalina promotions, 2 of which were calculated on the shelf price of the items:

Spend $30, Get $10 in Catalinas

Kraft cheese, shelf $3.99, sale $2.50
(8) Kraft cheese, shelf price = $31.92, sale price = $20.00
(4) $1/2 blinkie coupons from Giant = ($4.00)

Out of pocket: $16
Earned: $10 in Catalinas OR $6 for 8 blocks of Kraft cheese!

Spend $25, Get $10 in Catalinas

Banquet sausage, shelf $2.99, sale 10/$10
(9) Banquet sausage, shelf price = $26.91, sale price = $9

Out of pocket: $9
Earned: $10 in Catalinas ($1 Money Maker after Catalinas!!!) I did this deal twice.

Buy 5 Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks, Get $3.50 Catalina

(5) Fruit Snacks, sale $1 = $5
(2) $.40/2 internet printable coupons doubled = ($1.60)

Out of pocket: $3.40
Earned: $3.50 in Catalinas ($.10 Money Maker after Catalinas!!!) I did this deal twice.

I "rolled" $23.50 in Catalinas which reduced my overall out of pocket expense. I could have rolled more but thought a few separate transactions was enough. :) Good luck!

GIVEAWAY: MyBlogSpark & Yoplait Light

It's time for another GIVEAWAYYYYY! Don't forget to go here and enter for the FREE Yoplait Light gift pack!

You have until Saturday, March 13th to enter.

Slow on the Steals!

Bear with me as I'll be a little slow on the steals for the next few days. I did go to Shop Rite on Saturday and snagged about $80 in groceries (including milk, fruit & veggies, Hubby's non-sale cereal, and half-caf coffee) for $35 OOP AND got back $11 in store Catalinas!

I also discovered that Shop Rite's Holiday Dinner program counts pre-coupon spending towards the free ham, turkey, chicken, etc. so I've already accumulated $80 out of my $300. FREE ham, here I come!

Back to why I was posting- I'll be a little slow on the steals this week because I've been and will still be getting all my goodies ready for the upcoming Harford County Wee-Cycle. I'm consigning for the first time this year and have over 100 things to prepare, tag, and drop off. My drop off is tomorrow afternoon.

I haven't consigned at Wee-Cycle before (only shopped there and scored BIG) but a couple of my girlfriends have. They raked in a few hundred $$$ each time so cross your fingers for me! And... if my family and I are looking to move in the spring, this stuff must go!

Upromise: New eCoupons

It's a new month so it's time to load your March Upromise eCoupons to your store cards.

Remember, Upromise allows you to save for you or your family members' college education.

Wendy's: FREE Frosty Through 2010

At a local Wendy's drive through I noticed a sign about a FREE Jr. Frosty through December 31, 2010.

If you donate $1 to a cause, you get a key tag that is good for a FREE Jr. Frosty with any purchase. I'm thinking a $.99 hamburger and a FREE Jr. Frosty makes a nice, inexpensive snack!

Apparently there are other areas in the U.S. offering the same promotion. Happy saving!

Monday, March 1, 2010

Gabriel Brothers: Baby Blowout Sale

I ran into Gabriel Brothers on Saturday. Right now they are having a Baby Blowout Sale (why does that title make me think of a dirty diaper???).

I snagged 2 adorable little girls one-piece summer rompers for $3.99 each and a few pairs of Nike Jordan infant crib shoes. The crib shoes were marked $9.99 but rang up $7.99. I don't need these but think I should turn $10 - $20 off of each pair on eBay. SCORE! :)

There were lots of other baby goodies on sale too including a variety of Nike brand items for the sporty baby fashionistas!

Giant: Kraft Cheese Promo

On Saturday I ran into Giant to redeem a few more FREE item coupons from the Small Victories Booklet.

I discovered that there's a Kraft cheese promo going on now, I think through the 5th:

Buy 2 Kraft cheese, get $2 off instantly when you scan your bonus card, limit 1/transaction.

I had a few Kraft coupons from the Sunday paper that hadn't expired yet, save $1 on 2. The 8 oz bags of shredded cheese are $2.99 reg. price so...

Bought:
(2) Kraft cheese, $2.99

Coupons Used:
(1) $1/2 Kraft manufacturer coupon

Scanned Card:
$2 off instantly

Out of Pocket for 2 bags of Kraft Shredded cheese:
$2.98

Each bag wound up being 1/2 price; $1.49. $1.49 is generally my stock up price for shredded cheese so I did this transaction a few times. The Kraft MFR coupon expired on Sunday but there may be some other Kraft coupons out there floating around.

Rite Aid: Latest Steals & Coupon

I haven't posted a picture of any of my steals lately but I'll still share them with you!

On Saturday morning I got up to run to ShopRite, Rite Aid, Giant, & Gabriel Brothers before getting back to pack my car for the Quarter Auction.

I'll fill you in on ShopRite, Giant, & Gabes later but here's what I scored at Rite Aid.

I did 2 transactions:

Transaction #1
(2) Palmer chocolate Easter Bunnies, 2/$1
(5) Sally Hansen lip shine, clearance for $1.57
(6) Johnson & Johnson Baby Wash/Lotion, B1G1 for a penny, $4.29 & $.01

Coupons Used:
(1) Rite Aid Video Values $5/$20
(5) Sally Hansen $1 manufacturer coupons
(6) J&J $1 manufacturer coupons
(6) J&J Video Values coupons

Out of Pocket (including 6% tax):
$.76

Transaction #2

Coupons Used:
(1) Rite Aid Video Values $5/$20 coupon
(1) Rite Aid Game of Life "FREE Libman Wonder Mop" coupon
(6) Sally Hansen $.50 manufacturer coupons

Out of Pocket (including 6% tax):
$1.01

It was a great day at Rite Aid! Just $1.77 spent for 4 bags full of goodies!

For this week's Rite Aid deals, I suggest visiting Mindi at Moms Need to Know or Hot Coupon World. Happy saving!

And... Don't forget to use this $3 off $15 Rite Aid coupon too!

The Big Tarp Co. Store: CHEAP Pampers & More!

My girlfriend Kim called me yesterday to report that The Big Tarp Company Store (formerly the old C-Mart of Forest Hill) had some really good deals!

There were lots of diapering products at The Big Tarp. Pampers Easy Ups and diapers were $6.70 and tubs of wipes were $1.70. While I've been known to do better following sales and using coupons, these are still good prices if you don't have time to shop around!

Kim also reported back that Mickey Mouse Club girls undies were $2.70 for a pack of 3 and boys Marc Jacobs dress suits were only $40!

Thanks Kim!
